Jermaine Lamar Cole is back with new music and how? Bypassing the tradition of releasing music via streaming platforms. Cole joined artists like LaRussell and James Blake with his latest move — music supplied straight to fans.
A little while ago, Cole started a personal blog called, ‘Inevitable,’ as part of which he will be releasing unseen footage, unheard thoughts, and now, unreleased music. Fans can access most content on the site for a $10 subscription, however all you need is a free account on the site to listen to the music. If you’re keen on listening to his latest drop, ‘cLOUDs,’ all you have to do is sign up with your email, enter an OTP, and you’re in!

Now, why is Cole moving towards this sort of music distribution? Well, it’s speculation but what can be inferred is that using a personal blog on a subscription basis allows artists to take control of their data and directly connect with their fans. This allows artists to sell directly to fans by bypassing streaming altogether for a fee they feel is fair for their work. The result? More creative freedom, more income, and an increased sense of agency for fans who want to truly support artists beyond measly streaming payouts!

The new track is produced only in part by J. Cole himself, with DZL and Omen collaborating to have Cole floating over the beat like, well, clouds. Prefacing the release with a small blog entry, Cole shared how he didn’t have a title 20 mins before he hit upload and that he realised that he can do whatever he wants with his blog. Fans are already calling his versea on it some of the most technically proficient this year. What do you think?
