Ice Spice Releases Her Debut Album ‘Y2K!’: Listen

The wait is officially over: Ice Spice is out with her debut 10-track album, Y2K!. The title is an attempt to capture the times that were formative for Ice Spice, marking her birth in the year 2000.

The album features some of the smoothest talkers in rap now, including Travis Scott and Gunna from the US, as well as Central Cee, on the UK front. The album also isn’t one to come out without controversy, and came with its set of bars that had fans talking and taking sides.

The album opens up with the track, ‘Phat Butt’, which doesn’t really come across as surprise, and ends with ‘TTYL’, which serves as a perfect way to sign off. The album is full of pop and hyper pop motifs, to complement the trap heavy sounds of the album. Still, the project remains flexible in its approach towards the beats, which borrow elements from a variety of on the rise sub genres, including Jersey. Ice Spice, too, does a commendable job of holding her own as a rapper on these beats, which wonderfully showcase the vibrancy of her personality as an artist.

Earlier this month, Ice Spice also put out the video for her collaboration with Central Cee, which was a steamy-pop and intentionally over the top video showcasing exceptional chemistry between the two. Ice Spice sported many different looks and get ups, even twerked tonnes — almost as much as Central Cee said ‘Alright’. Jokes aside, Cee’s verse on the album is perhaps one of the standout moments in the project, and showcases his versatility even within the pop/ hip hop niche he’s come to be associated with.
