Common and Pete Rock, who recently dropped their album The Auditorium vol. 1, are back with some exquisite visuals for their track ‘Fortunate’ off said album.
The story driven video is graded with a tinge of nostalgia, and captures stories from Chicago in a manner that’s full of gratitude. The track itself is one built around being grateful for finding good fortune, and fits the timeless motif of the album quite well.
Common raps personally about his life, with metaphors you’d expect out of a seasoned emcee. You can hear the experience speak for itself as Common takes you down his memory lane, where he acknowledges the people he has had lucky to have in his life. On the production side, Pete Rock has made purposeful use of shimmering arpeggio based melodies with a crisp drum break, which greatly adds to the record’s dreamlike quality. All in all, it is an experience we must recommend.
Im fortunate for my fans lol. You guys are amazing and thank you so much for embracing me & common’s project. We havent felt this good in hip hop in a lil min lol.

The video will place you in Southside Chicago, where you will catch glimpses of people’s lives as they hug their loved ones, pray, mourn, celebrate and rejoice together. The video, and the song, is ultimately an ode to life itself — to a beating a heart and drums that knock, for Common himself and for Pete Rock.
